i need to do a survey of concert-goers for my anthropology class. so if you could please answer these questions for me that’d be fantastic. :)

  • name/age?
  • religion?
  • where do you stand politically? [conservative/liberal/neither]
  • are you more of an introvert or extrovert?
  • do you have a job? if so how much do you get paid?
  • what is your main favorite band? what are a few of your other favorites?
  • how many shows do you attended per year on average?
  • how much money do you usually spend at shows? [merchwise]
  • how late are you willing to stay after a show to meet a band?
  • how early are you willing to get to a show for the sake of getting close to the stage?
  • what band or bands have you seen the most and how many times?

i know a few at the beginning are a tad bit personal, but that’s how their supposed to be. i’ll be posting this a few more times today so sorry in advance if it annoys you.

Pianos painted by local artists are placed on street corners for anyone and everyone to play as they wish. Today my friend and I hunted them down and played them all.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify them, or vilify them. But the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

“The reason why I refuse to take existentialism as just another French fashion or historical curiosity is that I think it has something very important to offer us for the new century. I’m afraid we’re losing the real virtues of living life passionately, sense of taking responsibility for who you are, the ability to make something of yourself and feeling good about life. Existentialism is often discussed as if it’s a philosophy of despair. But I think the truth is just the opposite. Sartre once interviewed said he never really felt a day of despair in his life. But one thing that comes out from reading these guys is not a sense of anguish about life so much as a real kind of exuberance of feeling on top of it. It’s like your life is yours to create. I’ve read the postmodernists with some interest, even admiration. But when I read them, I always have this awful nagging feeling that something absolutely essential is getting left out. The more that you talk about a person as a social construction or as a confluence of forces or as fragmented or marginalized, what you do is you open up a whole new world of excuses. And when Sartre talks about responsibility, he’s not talking about something abstract. He’s not talking about the kind of self or soul that theologians would argue about. It’s something very concrete. It’s you and me talking. Making decisions. Doing things and taking the consequences. It might be true that there are six billion people in the world and counting. Nevertheless, what you do makes a difference. It makes a difference, first of all, in material terms. Makes a difference to other people and it sets an example. In short, I think the message here is that we should never simply write ourselves off and see ourselves as the victim of various forces. It’s always our decision who we are.”

Tegan & Sara - Where Does The Good Go?

“Look me in the eye and tell me you don’t find me attractive. Look me in the heart and tell me you won’t go. Look me in the eye and promise no love is like our love. Look me in the heart and unbreak the broken, it won’t happen.”

Reform

I’ve decided to drastically overhaul my life. I was planning on eradicating everything in August when I go to college and have been working on mental reformation, but I also need to modify my day-to-day habits.

My new axioms of well-being:

1. I will not consume alcohol and/or drugs, including the limitation of my caffeine intake.

2. I will go to bed around the same time every night and I will sleep a substantial amount.

3. I will exercise everyday.

4. I will become a vegetarian.

5. I will follow through with all of my obligations.
